A Cat’s Whiskers…

They’re so helpful in their hunting! When tiny prey animals move around, it creates a vibration in the air. Your cat’s whiskers can pick up those vibrations and measure the distance between it and the prey. They act like radar, allowing your cat to figure out just where they are. Whiskers are one of many reasons that your cat can catch a mouse before you even know it’s there!

What is proprioception? It is the awareness of the position of the body in relation to the world. This is how our cats, and us, know which way is up or down. This is also how we maneuver our bodies, without paying much attention, so that we don’t run into everything! Your cat’s whiskers provide their proprioception that helps let them know where they are.
