Catnip or catmint as it is sometimes referred to has been around for ages. Cat owners are aware of catnip because of the affect that is has on your cat. Catnip comes from a plant native to Europe, Africa, and Asia, which is in the mint family. This plant is called nepeta cataria. Thanks to its popularity for humans and felines it is now exported all over the world and grown basically everywhere.
Q. Is Catnip Good For My Cat?
A. Yes, catnip is a mild hallucinogen that is non toxic for cats. Catnip acts as a natural mood enhancer; in some cases it may make your cat act somewhat unusual. She may be more kittenish, more playful; she may jump and become frisky towards it or may roll all around in it. All of this behavior may be followed by meowing or lots of purring. This behavior is likely to last no longer than 15 minutes.

Q. Can I Give My Cat Too Much Catnip?
A. Not really, cats seem to know when to show you that they have had enough. Your kitty will most likely ignore it when she starts to get tired of it. But that won’t last long maybe a few hours and she will be right back at it again.

Q. Is There Any Other Use of Catnip Than Toys And Play?
A. Yes, You can use catnip for many items including using it as a training tool. Use catnip to encourage your cat to go towards or in a certain area. This could be a new scratching post or her new fluffy bed. With catnip you can easily pin point a certain area where you want to attract your cat’s attention.

Q. What Shouldn’t I Do with Catnip?
A. You Should never use catnip to train your kitty to go into the litter box. Doing this may also make your cat associate the litter box with a play area which may confuse your cat.

Q. What Is The Shelf Life Of Catnip?
A. In order to maximize the life of catnip store it in the freezer. The shelf life is approximately 2 years in good storage condition (cool and dark).

Q. Does Catnip Come In Different Forms?
A. Yes, Catnip generally comes in 4 different forms. The live plant form- which might have pesticides in it, catnip dried- the basic form most people know of, compressed catnip- usually in a ball (This form will not make a mess) and lastly, the catnip spray- commonly used to spray on cat’s toys, beds, and anything that you want them to be attracted to. Organic is always the best way to go.
