Why Does My Cat Stare At Me?

Rebecca Schmidt • Dec 10, 2014
Cats stare at their humans for many reasons. The most common reason is because you are the center of their universe and they like to see what you are up to. Sometimes a stare involves the opening and closing of one eye as they drift in and out of sleep. Cats do this to keep an eye out for predators.

Other common reasons why your cat stares at you:cat staring

* Wants love and affection – Your cat may lovingly gaze at you hoping for a comfy lap and some love.

* Curiosity – Your cat wants to know everything you do. It is also a way of learning from you.

* Reading your mood and movement – If your cat sees that you are upset or angry they may try to comfort you or stay clear of you.

* Show their dominance over you – Just like in nature, cats like to show others who the boss is.

* Hungry or thirsty – Maybe your cat needs more food or water in her bowl.

Cats also use body language to communicate their moods. Dilated pupils can sometimes mean they are scared or that they are ready to attack.

Some people say that when a cat is staring at you and slowly blinks it is sending you “cat kisses”. It may also mean your cat is paying close attention to what you have to say.
